Evernote

Chris Faulkner waut

What is Evernote?
Evernote allows you to easily capture information in any environment using whatever device or platform you find most convenient, and makes this information accessible and searchable at any time, from anywhere.

How would I use it?
1. You capture the things you want to remember using what you already use—your Windows or Mac computer, the web, and your mobile phone.
2. We run everything through our recognition technology and then make it all available across your devices. You can then organize and tag the notes, if you want.
3. When you want to remember something, just search for it and there it is just like you remember it.

--Sounds all fine and dandy Chris, but how would I put notes into Evernote?
Well, you can create new notes using desktop, web, and mobile versions of Evernote
-OR-
Take a snapshot using your camera phone or webcam. We'll even recognize the text in the image.
-OR-
Clip entire webpages, screenshots, and just about anything else you can copy
-OR-
Drag and drop content into the desktop clients for Mac and Windows
-OR-
Email notes directly into your account using your personalized email address
-OR-
Scan receipts, recipes, tags, brochures, and anything else into Evernote
-OR-
Record audio wherever you are and listen to it whenever you want
-OR-

Important Note: In case you are wondering, you can email notes, but not "share" notes and collaborate like you would with a wiki.

--So, Chris, this sounds great, but there is always a cost. I bet this costs an arm and a leg...right?
Would you believe it if I told you, you could get this all for FREE?!
--Get out of town! I'd pay at least a few toes for this kind of technology! I gotta have this...NOW!
Easy, easy. They do offer a premium account, however, I've used the free account since I started and never ran into a limitation. You can find out more here: http://www.evernote.com/about/premium/

If you want to check Evernote, and if you made it this far down the page, you are moderately interested, so check it out here: http://www.evernote.com

Activity with Tool:
Setup an account online and use it to create a Notebook, and inside that notebook, create a new note. Your Notebook could be a personal journal or full of Pepperdine information. You can create as many notebooks as you desire.

Reflection:
I chose Evernote as my Cadre Gift because it really simplified my life and it was the perfect tool for me. There have been countless times I've been needing to review notes from a past meeting or look over some thoughts I've jotted down, only to discover, they are on another computer or I've misplaced them. Evernote is a simple note-taking tool that allows me to centralize all of my notes. It has a full-featured desktop version (Mac, XP, Vista) which syncs to the web. Since it is on the web, anytime you have a computer, you have access to all of your notes. In addition to that, it also has a great iPhone version, which is perfect. So, now, instead of having to search for my notes, they are in one place.

In addition to that, the optical character recognition is amazing. In other words, if you take a picture of a word and put that picture in your notes, if you search for the word, that picture will show up. This is incredibly useful if you are in a meeting and have a whiteboard with alot of notes.
